Classic Italy: Rome to the

Italy is best seen behind the wheel, where you can stop for an espresso whenever the mood strikes. I've designed this 7-day loop to keep things relaxed—no more than two or three big stops a day—so you actually have time to enjoy the "dolce far niente" (the sweetness of doing nothing).

Route: Rome → Val d'Orcia → Siena → Florence → Pisa → Portovenere → Portofino → Lake Como → Milan
Primary area: Italy
✅ Current month (May) is in this region's prime season. France/Italy/Spain/Greece: May-Jun & Sep-Oct ideal. Jul-Aug 35°C+ + tourist crowds + August closures.

Most importantly, download an offline map; Italian hill towns have notoriously spotty GPS signals!
