Italy in 7 Days: Rome

Here's a relaxed Italian loop — never more than two real stops a day so you can actually sit at a café, not just tick boxes. We'll start in Rome and end up by the lakes, all by car. Heads up: Italian city centers (ZTL zones) are camera-enforced no-go areas for non-residents — always park in a garage on the edge and walk in.

Route: Rome → Orvieto → Val d'Orcia (Pienza/Montalcino) → Florence → Cinque Terre → Lake Como → Milan
Primary area: Italy
✅ Current month (May) is in this region's prime season. France/Italy/Spain/Greece: May-Jun & Sep-Oct ideal. Jul-Aug 35°C+ + tourist crowds + August closures.

Heads Up

Italian historic centers ban non-resident cars and the cameras WILL find you in Wisconsin. Always park in edge garages.

Book ahead: Colosseum, Uffizi, Florence Duomo dome, Villa del Balbianello, any Brunello tasting. Walk-ups waste your trip.

Cinque Terre + Como = leave the car parked, use trains and ferries.
