7 Days in Tokyo, Slow & Deep

Tokyo is a subway-and-train city, so I'm routing day trips by rail (Hakone and Kamakura) — flagged with 🚄 so you know when to swap the Suica for a limited express. Otherwise walk and metro your way through, pace is easy, 2–3 anchor stops a day.

Route: Tokyo (Asakusa) → Shibuya/Shinjuku → Tsukiji/Imperial Palace → Hakone (overnight) → Kamakura → Tokyo (teamLab/Akiba) → Roppongi/Ebisu
Primary area: Tokyo
Sakura late Mar-early Apr (Kyoto/Tokyo). Koyo (autumn leaves) mid-Nov to early Dec. Jun-Jul tsuyu (rainy season).

Trip Highlights
  • Book ahead: teamLab Planets, Shibuya Sky sunset slot, Hakone ryokan, Romancecar seats
  • Passes worth it: Suica for everything daily; Hakone Free Pass on Day 4; skip the JR Pass — you're not covering enough ground
  • Cash: carry ¥10,000 — Golden Gai, small shrines, older shops still prefer it
  • Takkyubin your suitcase Hakone → Tokyo hotel on Day 5, thank me later
