Italy Southbound-to-Alps

This is a true south-to-north route, but it is ambitious because Sicily, Matera, Amalfi, Rome, Venice, Como, and the Dolomites are spread across almost the whole length of Italy.

Route: Palermo → Castello Utveggio → Matera → Amalfi Coast → Rome → Venice → Lake Garda → Lake Como / Villa Balbiano → Varenna → Lago di Resia → Merano → Bolzano → Ortisei → Dolomites → Cortina d'Ampezzo
Primary area: Italy
✅ Current month (May) is in this region's prime season. France/Italy/Spain/Greece: May-Jun & Sep-Oct ideal. Jul-Aug 35°C+ + tourist crowds + August closures.

I’m reading this as a south-to-north Italy road trip, with one honest caveat: Castello Utveggio is in Palermo, Sicily, so including it makes Day 1 a big southern launch before the mainland climb north.
