The Ultimate Grand Circle Loop

Fourteen days through the heart of the American Southwest, hitting the "Mighty 5" of Utah plus the heavy hitters of Arizona and Colorado.

LAS → Zion → Bryce → Escalante → Capitol Reef → Moab → Mesa Verde → Monument Valley → Page → North Rim → South Rim → Kingman → LAS

  1. Desert Start

    (5km, 0.5h drive)

    • Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)

Grab your bags and head straight to the rental car center. You'll want a high-clearance SUV for some of the gravel roads we might encounter later.

    • Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas Strip is the newer main street of Las Vegas, offering boundless entertainment opportunities through gambling, restaurants, shows and more. Visitors with money to spend and the energy for nightlife will get the most out of The Strip, although since the 1980s attractions have developed for families and travelers on a budget as well.

    • High Roller

Get a bird's eye view of the valley at sunset to get your bearings before the neon lights take over.

  2. Into the Sanctuary

Leave early to beat the heat and the crowds heading northeast.

    • Depart Vegas

Leave early to beat the heat and the crowds heading northeast.

    • Zion Canyon Visitor Center

Park here and hop on the shuttle. The canyon is car-free most of the year. Walk the Riverside Walk to see the start of the Narrows; the sheer 1,000-foot walls are mind-blowing.

    • Canyon Overlook Trail

The historical buildings and structures of Zion National Park represent a variety of buildings, interpretive structures, signs and infrastructure associated with the National Park Service's operations in Zion National Park, Utah.

  3. Hoodoos and Heights

This drive is an attraction itself. Watch for bighorn sheep on the slickrock.

This drive is an attraction itself. Watch for bighorn sheep on the slickrock.

    • Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon National Park is a national park in Utah's Canyon Country. Some 35,835 acres (14,502 ha) or 56 mi² (145 km²) in extent, the designated area around the spectacular Bryce Canyon (not actually a canyon, but rather a giant natural amphitheater created by erosion) became a United States National Monument in 1923 and was designated as a National Park in 1928.

    • Inspiration Point

The best spot to see the vastness of the Bryce Amphitheater as the shadows start to stretch.
