Iceland Ring Road Highlights

A perfect 5-day loop hitting Iceland's most iconic waterfalls, glaciers, and spas without the rush.

Keflavík ✈ Reykjavik → Golden Circle → Vík → Jökulsárlón → South Coast → Blue Lagoon ✈ Keflavík

  1. Day 1 · Golden Circle Classics

Pick up the 4x4 at KEF and hit the classics — 5-day route: Reykjavik → South Coast → Vík → Jökulsárlón → Reykjavik, ~900km.

    • Keflavík Airport

Grab your 4x4 and some snacks at the duty-free. Adventure starts now!

    • Thingvellir National Park

Walk between tectonic plates at this UNESCO site where the world's oldest parliament was formed. It's literally where North America and Eurasia pull apart.

    • Strokkur Geyser

The original 'Geysir' is quiet, but its brother Strokkur blasts water 30 meters high every few minutes. Keep your camera ready!

    • Gullfoss Waterfall

The 'Golden Falls' is a massive double-drop waterfall that feels like the earth is swallowing a river. The mist is legendary.

  2. Day 2 · South Coast Waterfalls

Chase the big waterfalls and walk on black sand beaches near Vík.

    • Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

The one you can walk behind! It's a unique perspective, just be prepared to get a little wet from the spray.

    • Skógafoss Waterfall

A perfect rectangular curtain of water. Legend says there's a chest of gold behind it. Climb the stairs for a killer view from the top.

    • Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

World-famous black sand, basalt columns, and massive sea stacks. It feels like another planet, but watch out for the ocean.

    • Vík

Charming village with a red-roofed church. Perfect base for the night.

  3. Day 3 · Glaciers & Icebergs

Head east to see the 'Crown Jewel of Iceland'—floating icebergs and diamond beaches.

    • Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon

A massive, winding canyon that looks like something out of a fantasy novel. The green moss against the dark rock is stunning.

    • Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Huge chunks of ice break off the glacier and float in this deep lagoon. You might even spot some seals lounging on the bergs.

    • Diamond Beach

Right across the road from the lagoon, icebergs wash up on the black sand, looking like giant diamonds. Best photo op in Iceland.

    • Hof

Quiet hamlet with a beautiful turf church. Rest up here.

  4. Day 4 · Canyons & Hot Springs

Start the journey back west, stopping for a soak and some hidden gems.

    • Skaftafell / Vatnajökull NP

A hiker's paradise. The trail to Svartifoss (the Black Fall) is surrounded by basalt columns that inspired Iceland's architecture.

    • Vík í Mýrdal Church

The most iconic hilltop church in Iceland. Great for a quick panoramic view of the town and the sea stacks below.

    • Seljavallalaug Hidden Pool

One of the oldest pools in Iceland, tucked into a mountain valley. It's a bit of a walk, but the vibe is unbeatable.

    • Hella

Small town on the way back to the capital. Great for Northern Lights spotting.

  5. Day 5 · Blue Lagoon & Reykjavik

Finish with a luxury soak and a stroll through the world's northernmost capital.

    • The Blue Lagoon

The ultimate Iceland bucket list item. Milky blue geothermal water surrounded by black lava fields. It's touristy, but totally worth it.

    • Hallgrímskirkja Church

The landmark of Reykjavik. Its design mimics the basalt columns you saw on the South Coast.

    • Laugavegur Street

The main shopping and dining drag. Great for picking up a wool sweater (Lopapeysa) or some local art.

    • Keflavík Airport

Drop off the car and head home. Takk fyrir, Iceland!
