Iceland Ring Road 5D

5 day Roadigo trip with 20 stops

  1. Day 1 · Blue Lagoon & Reykjavik

Fly into KEF, grab the 4x4, and soak before hitting the capital — 5-day route: KEF → South Coast → Glacier Lagoon → East Fjords → Myvatn → Akureyri → Reykjavik, ~1,400km.

    • Keflavík Airport

Pick up your 4x4 rental and hit the road immediately.

    • Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa

A milky-blue oasis set in a black lava field. It's touristy but iconic for a reason.

    • Hallgrímskirkja Church

Inspired by basalt columns, this is the tallest building in Reykjavik and its most famous landmark.

    • Sólfar - Sun Voyager

A massive stainless steel sculpture resembling a Viking longship, symbolizing hope and freedom.

  2. Day 2 · South Coast Waterfalls

Chase massive waterfalls and walk on black sand beaches along the dramatic South Coast.

    • Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

A 60m drop with a path that leads you directly behind the curtain of water.

    • Skógafoss Waterfall

Skógafoss is a waterfall on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliff marking the former coastline. After the coastline had receded, the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.

    • Dyrhólaey Promontory

A 120m high peninsula offering panoramic views of the black coastline and a lighthouse.

    • Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

World-famous beach with striking basalt stacks and powerful Atlantic waves.

  3. Day 3 · Glaciers & Icebergs

Head east to the land of ice. Walk among glaciers and see icebergs wash up on the shore.

    • Skaftafell - Vatnajökull National Park

A lush oasis under the massive Vatnajökull glacier. Great for hiking trails.

    • Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon

A smaller, more intimate iceberg lagoon where the glacier looms large over the water.

    • Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Iceland's most famous lagoon where icebergs break off the glacier and float toward the ocean.

    • Diamond Beach (Breiðamerkursandur)

The place where icebergs from the lagoon wash up on the black sand beach.

  4. Day 4 · Canyons & Geothermal

A long driving day through the East Fjords to the volcanic wonders of Mývatn.

    • Stuðlagil Canyon

A turquoise river flowing through massive hexagonal basalt columns. A hidden gem turned viral.

    • Hverir Geothermal Area

A Martian landscape of boiling mud pools and hissing fumaroles at the foot of Namafjall.

    • Grjótagjá Cave

A hidden hot spring cave. You can't swim here anymore (too hot), but it's beautiful to see.

    • Mývatn Nature Baths

Relax in alkaline waters surrounded by volcanic landscapes. The perfect end to a long drive.

  5. Day 5 · The Road Back

Visit the Waterfall of the Gods and the capital of the North before the long haul to Reykjavik.

    • Goðafoss Waterfall

One of Iceland's most spectacular waterfalls, where the laws of Christianity were once thrown into the falls.

    • Akureyri City Center

A charming town at the base of Eyjafjörður Fjord. It's the cultural hub of the North.

    • Glaumbær Farm & Museum

A preserved turf farmhouse dating back to the 18th century, showing traditional Icelandic architecture.

    • Reykjavik

Reykjavík is the capital of and largest city in Iceland and with an urban area population of around 233,000 (2019), it is the home to two-thirds of Iceland's population. It is the centre of culture and life of the Icelandic people, and is one of the focal points of tourism in Iceland. The city is spread out, and has sprawling suburbs.
